Committee Members
Our board is made up of 12 fantastic, hard working volunteers. Here's a little about each of them:
Mark Stange - (Race Director)
Mark competed in seven Turtleman races before joining the original board in 1998 as Bike Coordinator, creating and modifying the bike course to accommodate road construction and other concerns. He also made the 'water tent' at the finish.
Gene Holen (Treasurer and Transition Coordinator)
A member of the original board that brought the race back in 1998, Gene's been helpful in all aspects of the race. But most important he is the person who makes sure everyone has an accurately timed race. And he stays wonderfully calm throughout the whole race experience. Gene’s competed in over 8 Turtleman races.
Richard Erickson (Swim Course Coordinator)
He joined our board in 2003 as the Swim Coordinator. Richard measures the course very carefully with the help of surveyors, sets all of the buoys, organizes all of the water safety, and makes sure everyone gets through the swim course safely.
Brenda Walther (Volunteer Coordinator)
Brenda began working with the Turtleman in 2004. She works tirelessly to attract volunteers and put them all to work, keeping the race smooth. In addition, she is helping with the web page content.
Karen Rothbauer (Registration Coordinator)
Karen returns to the Turtleman Triathlon Committee to working to keep the registration process moving like a well oiled machine. She is an avid triathlete.
Eric Kalmes (Run Course Coordinator)
As an avid runner, Eric has been coordinating the run course for the Turtleman. He hasn’t kept water in the lake, but he does keep plenty at the water stops on the run course.
Pat Branch (Bike Course Coordinator)
Dr. Peter Dahlberg (Medical Director) Pat's contributions to the Turtleman will be bringing him back year after year.
Peter has been our Medical Director for the past two years. He is also a USA triathlon competitor.
Jill Flower (Volunteers & Sponsors)
Jill will be officially joining the committee after years of volunteering at the race. She will be sharing her skills in organizing volunteers and sponsors. Welcome Jill!
The Turtleman Triathlon is a volunteer/athlete-produced event. New committee members are needed to keep it so. If interested in "giving back" drop Mark a line at: mark.stange@uhc.com
